Three people are gunned down in the small, sleepy town of Kelso in Georgia. And as Sheriff Lucas Turner investigates the cold-blooded shootings, the daughter of one of the victims flies out from the UK, determined to track down her father’s killer or killers.

More people meet violent ends as Dana and Lucas home in on Dewey Keach, a gangster in the city of LaGrange, who has connections in high places and can pull all the strings necessary to protect his interests.
Keach arranged for Dana’s father to be killed for a third party. To him it was just business. He has no idea that the law is the least of his problems, for Dana has an agenda; she is determined to find everyone who had any involvement in her father’s death, and kill them.

Michael Kerr is an English author who has written some very fine police procedural novels that take place in the UK. The Matt Barnes series appealed to me because I enjoy the British slang e.g.. "punters, for gamblers, wankers, for general morons,and rollers for Rolls Royce.But it's a stretch for Brits to try to pick up and write dialogue for southern redneck s with double digit IQ s such as the killer in this story. Kerr makes a few slips using " lift" to mean "arrest"'
Things I liked: detailed character descriptions
Fast paced action scenes
Sub plots with late reveals
Things I could have done without:
Overkill, excessive violent descriptions
Unrealistic female heroine?
beautiful yet a bar brawler- come on now!
But overall I like Kerr' s style. I went on to read AFTERMATH, DEADLY REPRISAL, and NEED TO. KILL . I believe Kerr is putting a dent in the sales of the Big Name authors of this genre. The math tells the tale. At $2.99 I felt I was saving a "ten spot" and getting the same enjoy ment. Almost like getting 4 for the price of one!
I liked this tale enough to hang 5 Stars on it and would welcome More tales made in USA.

Ticks all the right boxes for me. An exciting, fast-paced thriller that I really found to be unputdownable. Better than a lot of the big name, top of the New York Times bestsellers list. Keep them coming Mr Kerr.
A great fast moving book. Grippimg story of man's
inhumanity to man. A great plot, not for the squeamish
reader.
Good fast paced read and a good escape while traveling. The plot was well thought out. The author would do better if he was more up to speed on American slang.....
An exciting edge of the seat thriller. Like Deadly Reprisal, I couldn't put it down. If you love Lee Child's Reacher, you'll love this.
